Our failures are network failures. Isn’t this an engineering problem rather than a process problem?
Some failures are engineering problems — and many are not. A repeat truck roll caused by a wrong order, an activation delayed by provisioning fallout, a dispute caused by a rating error: none of those are fixed by better electronics. Six Sigma complements network engineering by attacking the process-made failures, and it often sharpens the engineering work too, by turning repeat incidents into analyzed patterns instead of individually closed tickets.
We already track MTTR, first-visit completion and NPS. What does Six Sigma add to the dashboards?
Dashboards tell you where you are; they do not tell you why, or what will move the number. DMAIC is the missing half: it takes a metric off the dashboard, establishes what actually drives it with data rather than opinion, changes the process, and installs controls so the improvement survives the next quarter. Teams with mature dashboards often progress fastest, because the baseline data already exists.
Which belts fit a field-operations organization?
A workable pattern: White Belt for supervisors and managers who will sponsor and support projects, Yellow Belt for dispatchers, technicians and care agents who will map processes and collect data, and Green Belt for the analysts or team leads who will run the projects. Black Belt fits the person accountable for improvement across field, provisioning, NOC and care — where the cross-functional problems live.
